Posting this now should ensure that I don't play again until next Sunday. Today was just a horror day (inside and out - it's been blowing a gale all day which isn't unusual for Wellington I know). I dropped $204 today and could do with a short break. I don't think I've ever won that much on one day (if you disregard 4th May 2010) so I really did take a pummelling.
June had the makings of a bumper month; in the end I made just $156 including the $50 bonus. My bankroll is $2235, down from a high of $2441. I made $1209 in the first half of 2012.

Two-eleven badugi: the new craze
A hold 'em-style poker game was invented a few years ago called 2-11 (pronounced two-eleven). Despite slick presentation and marketing, it's never really taken off (it's really hard to make any sort of game popular). Today I invented two-eleven badugi. It's really easy to play: just log into Poker Stars, play some $2/$4 badugi, and Bob's your uncle, you lose $211.
It's been my worst ever day on the badugi tables. Minus $96 in 207 hands, followed by plus $5 in 71 hands, then minus $120 in 82 hands. I struggled to win any decent-sized pots at all. My day was summed up by the final hand I played:

More hands (of the two-street variety)
I played $3/$6 badugi this morning for the first time in a year. I only played 38 hands, making a $46 profit, when the table broke. I made two questionable plays. First I got heads-up in position with a pat T9. We capped pre and both patted, he bet both flop and turn, I just called his bets, but when he checked the river I checked back and he showed me a Q8. At 1/2 I'm happy checking that back but at 3/6 I should really put in a value bet even though he might fold. The second hand was a pat QJ, again in position against an aggressive player (hence why I was happy to play the hand). He drew one each time, called my flop and turn bets, but then bet into me on the river. I called but probably should have folded because I'm pretty close to the bottom of my range. He had a 76.

Badugi battles
The new Blogger interface for writing these posts is bloody horrible. I don't know how much longer I can keep this up.
As always I've had a few ups and downs since the last time I posted. I had a +$130 session last night though. My bankroll is now $2266. I've also got $99 of tournament money up my sleeve.

I think this is the biggest pot I've ever won at $1/$2. I prefer to flat these kinds of hands pre to let others in. However if the pot is already multi-way I like to reraise.

I didn't mind this fold despite dumping what was the best hand by a gnat's whisker. I'm getting a little over 5:1 here. Without any reads, am I good a sixth of the time? Probably not. At the time I figured it was close; I would have called with an 84. The river raiser was unknown and this was early in the session. He went on to make some spewy plays; later in the session this would have been an easy call.

This hand shows the power of position in draw games. I'll draw if he pats and pat if he draws. When he draws he's probably got 32A or 42A, maybe 43A or 432 but almost certainly something better than 52A, so patting the queen is the way to go. Any merit to betting the river, and should I call if he bets? I've turned my hand face-up somewhat by just calling the turn.

I think this is my favourite snow ever, but I'm not sure how clever it was. Boxter's failure to cap pre reeks of weakness so I go for the jugular on the turn. But when he calls, am I better off just drawing to maybe eight or nine outs, or patting to induce a break? Seeing the hand he broke to makes me think he isn't very good.

I posted this hand on a forum; someone made the very good point that Flok's cap and draw one probably means he had three wheel cards, making it less likely that Stilllight has a hand that beats mine. That 2/4 session goes from bad to worse here. This is easily my worst ever misclick. The river is an easy call. Sometimes if I tap the finger pad thingy (not the mouse button) it'll register a click, which is what happened here. I should probably plug in an actual mouse for poker.
