I played 577 hands of 1/2 badugi today. On both the first two hands of my first session I made eight badugis that were second best, and in no time almost half my stack had gone. I then went further into the red but rallied to finish up a modest $15 in 258 hands. In the second session I benefited from some seriously spewy play (and the odd slice of luck) to be up $116 after winning 16 of 20 showdowns; the last four hands I showed down were losers but I still made a healthy $85 over the 208-hand session. Then I lost $50 in 111 hands - things just didn't happen for me. I missed big one-card draws in big pots, my pat 87 was outdrawn (both my opponents drew two so I had 72% equity three-way according to my spreadsheet) and so on.

Hand 1
Whisky Tango Foxtrot? Chopper three-bets pre, calls a cap and draws three. Right. I three-bet the flop purely for value because my opponents are so loose (and even if I'm losing say half the time I want anyone drawing to pay for the privilege), then Chopper caps and draws two! This is kamikaze badugi. When Aa888 bets straight into me on the turn I figure I'm probably dead but the pot is big and he's a spew monkey. Then on the river I'm almost certainly dead when I have to call the second bet - maybe I've got 5% equity but that's all I need. Chopper's raise is simply dreadful play. Look at what Aa888 was drawing to. Hell's bells. The really scary thing about this hand is that if Aa888 had felt like reraising the river with his 98 I might well have folded, leaving Chopper as the winner.

This was from my last session. I hadn't seen Aa888 snow, and certainly not from the get-go in a five-way capped pot, but nothing seemed impossible any more. He seemed to bet every badugi on the river if he was the only player pat; this made me think perhaps he did snow occasionally. By my calculations his queen will hold up here about one time in seven.

A funny hand. My snow goes horribly wrong and instead of patting and bombing the pot (which is what I'll do next time if this crops up) I go for, and hit, the miracle draw. I really think I should have shoved because it looks more bluffy that way (and hell, do you trust someone who raises a two-card draw in that position?).
